NASDI Projects – Bridge (Heavy-Civil) Demolition

I-10 Twin Span Bridge    Slidell, LA
This project consists of the demolition of the existing I-10 Twin Span Bridge over Lake Pontchartrain in Slidell, LA. Each of the two parallel bridges are approximately five miles long for a total of ten miles of bridge demolition. This bridge was damaged by Hurricane Katrina and was subsequently replaced with a new bridge that is now open to traffic. As such, the existing bridge is obsolete and to be removed in its entirety.

CSX Bridge Bundle    Various Cities in Massachusetts
NASDI was contracted by a heavy-civil general contracting joint-venture firm to perform the demolition of six bridges throughout the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MA DOT) Districts Two and Three. NASDI’s scope ranges from full to partial demolition of the existing bridges that are located over the CSX railway lines. This is a two-year long, phased project being overseen by the MA DOT Highway Division. A highlight of this project includes the fast-tracked demolition of the James Street Bridge in Worcester. This bridge is required to be removed in less than ten working days.

St. George’s Ferry Terminal    Staten Island, NY
NASDI is under contract and is presently performing selective demolition services at the St. George Ferry Terminal in Staten Island, New York. The ferry terminal, operated by the New York City DOT Division of Bridges, has been in service since 1905 serving approximately 65,000 passengers per day. NASDI’s scope of work calls for the substructure demolition of all existing decks; complete superstructure and substructure demolition of two bus ramps; complete demolition of the old viaduct; selective demolition of other structural members; and asbestos and lead abatement as required.
Saint George Ferry Terminal
Boston University Bridge    Boston/Cambridge, MA
NASDI was contracted to perform the 30,000 square foot bridge deck, sidewalk and parapet demolition required to facilitate the rehabilitation of the historic Boston University Bridge. This bridge spans the Charles River connecting Boston and Cambridge. In order to maintain traffic on this major transportation corridor, work is being performed at night and in multiple stages. The overall project duration is approximately two years.

Whitestone Bridge Redevelopment   Bronx/Queens, NY
The Bronx–Whitestone Bridge is a suspension bridge located in New York City spanning the East River, connecting the boroughs of Queens on Long Island and The Bronx via Interstate 678. The bridge is operated by the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority - Division of Bridges & Tunnels. NASDI was contracted to perform the staged demolition of the structure at the Bronx and Queens approach. The scope-of-work includes hazardous material remediation and substructure removal of concrete decks, beams, and piers.

DCR Access Road   Randolph, MA
NASDI performed the demolition of this 8,000 square foot bridge over State Route 24 in Randolph, MA. Due to heavy vehicular traffic on Route 24, all work was performed at night. The scope of work included the complete removal of the bridge decking, supporting beams, piers, and abutments. On this project, NASDI coordinated with both the general contractor and the Massachusetts Highway Department to plan and execute a safe and effective bridge removal.
DCR Access Road
Wilbur Road Bridge   Lincoln, RI
NASDI was subcontracted by a heavy-civil general contractor from Rhode Island to demolish the existing Wilbur Road Bridge over Route 146 in Lincoln, RI. The demolition of the bridge was performed at night under complete road closures. NASDI was able to remove the entire bridge including bituminous concrete pavement, reinforced concrete deck, sidewalks, steel beams, steel diaphragms, and portions of the piers and abutments in less than ten working days. NASDI worked quickly and safely in order to complete the job on-time and under budget.
